These are the steps to the church La Senora de los Remedios. And to get to this point we had to walk up this paved side of the pyramid and it's quite the workout. I added a few other photos of the church and it's very impressive. It isn't as big as I thought it was going to be and I still feel uncomfortable taking pictures inside churches (they allow it as long as you don't use a flash) but I'll just keep those images of the inside of the church inside my own mind. The bottom picture is of a church that the Spaniards built using the stones of a minor pyramid after they destroyed it. I don't think the Spaniards of the sixteenth century (and the two centuries after that) really appreciated indigenous religions.

So here is the great Popocatepetl, one of the many volcanoes found here in Mesoamerica. You can actually see smoke coming out of the top because Popocatepetl (say that 10x fast) is still an active volcano. I took this picture from the street just beyond our fraccionamiento (neighborhood) and had to zoom in just a bit but on a clear day you can witness this great majestic addition to the landscape of Cholula and Puebla. But of course, when I went up to La Iglesia de la Senora de los Remedios, it was extremely overcast and you could not view Popocatepetl. Also, here is a picture of the church and you can see the different layers of the great pyramid of Quetzalcoatl just below.

I am so happy to be here in Mexico. The sky ceases to amaze me because it appears to be larger than any sky I have ever witnessed. This may not be the best picture of the heavens but I believe it to be at least a good one. I also wanted to show the house that I am living in. It's very cute and comfortable. My buddy Rocky (the dog) and I are becoming friends. Also I had to include a picture of the church (Nuestra Senora de Los Remedios) that the Spaniards built on top of the pyramid with the largest base in the world. The pyramid was built in four stages and was dedicated to Quetzalcoatl. Cholula was the second largest city in pre-colombian times (only the capital city of the Mexica, Tenochtitlan, was larger). Cholula was also the religious center of the Aztecs (a triple alliance between the Mexica of Tenochtitlan, the Acolhua of Texcoco and the Chalca of Chaco). From my window (I had to zoom just a little bit) one can see this magnificent church which symbolizes conquest and the domination of the Catholic Church here in Mexico.

Saying See ya Later

Iam still getting use to this blog thing so forgive me if it's not so great. I just wanted to put up a few pictures of my last days in Cincinnati and say that I miss my family so very much. The fleeting moments of life help me to realize what is truly important: this moment. It is the only moment that matters. It was great to see Tracie and her sweet and adorable kids. I love spending time with them and their ebullient spirits help to lift me up. I miss you guys and love you!
